REACH
What is REACH?
REACH is a new European Union regulation concerning the:
Registration,
Evaluation,
Authorisation and restriction of
CHemicals.
It came into force on 1st June 2007 and replaces a number of European Directives and Regulations with a single system.
A major part of REACH is the requirement for manufacturers or importers of substances to register them with a central European Chemicals Agency (ECHA)
BOC’s position
BOC is fully aware of REACH and the timetable for pre-registration and registration of substances.
The Regulation itself is complex and will have a significant impact on all manufacturers, importers and downstream users of substances within the European Union (EU), for instance, increasing the information flow about substances between participants in the supply chain.
We are committed to meeting our legal obligations under REACH, as a manufacturer, importer or downstream user and have started preparing for it. However, we are still awaiting clarification from the EU on some of the important technical details, as some of the guidance documents are still under development. Until this information is available we cannot fully assess the impact of REACH on our product portfolio.
There are certain substances, manufactured by BOC which are exempt from the obligation to register under REACH due to the low risk they present:
- Carbon dioxide
- Nitrogen
- Hydrogen
- Oxygen
- Argon
- Helium
- Neon
- Xenon
