Gloves

Personal protection is required by workers to ensure their safety when carrying out welding or cutting.

Welders and others should wear suitable gloves to protect against heat and radiation from welding, and hot metal or spatter ejected from the weld.

There are several different types of glove available. Welders' gloves are often leather gauntlet types to give added protection to the forearm. These are not suitable for all applications, for example, TIG welding, and here welders may prefer to use lighter, chamois leather gloves to aid feeding of filler metal through the fingers.

Gloves may also be supplied with metallised areas to give added protection when working in foundries, etc, with molten metal.

Gloves for other trades will be selected according to job function and may range from leather gloves to rigger type gloves depending on the type of protection required.
