Alloy steels encompasses a range of engineering steels exhibiting creep resistance, improved low temperature and high temperature properties.

But what is 'alloy steel'?

Steel, in very crude terms, is simply an alloy of iron and carbon, where carbon content is less than 2%. Alloy steels also have other elements such as chrome, nickel and molybdenum added.

Steels for low temperature service contain nickel between 1 and 9%, this allows their use at progressively lower temperatures. For high temperature service, steels with good creep strength are required, creep resisting steels, containing chromium, molybdenum, or vanadium are used. In applications that require a hard-wearing, work hardening, steel, high manganese steels, containing 13%Mn, are often used.
